With Rahul Dravid’s time as India’s head coach coming to an end after the T20 World Cup this June,
the BCCI is on the lookout for his replacement. Here’s where things get interesting: according to a
report in Hindustan Times, the Board has set its sights on Stephen Fleming, the coach of the Chennai
Super Kings (CSK) where Dhoni himself used to be captain.
Apparently, Fleming is the BCCI’s top choice for the head coach position. He’s a highly respected
cricketer, having captained New Zealand for many years, and has a proven track record in the IPL
with CSK. However, there’s a catch: Fleming isn’t quite sold on the long commitment that comes
with the job. He’s hesitant to sign on for a role that would keep him busy until 2027.
This is where Dhoni comes in. The BCCI, unwilling to give up on Fleming just yet, is reportedly
seeking Dhoni’s help in convincing his former CSK coach. Dhoni’s legendary cricketing mind and
strong relationship with Fleming could be the key to getting him on board.
The BCCI is also exploring other options – names like Gautam Gambhir, Ricky Ponting, Justin Langer,
and Mahela Jayawardene have been mentioned. But Fleming remains their preferred candidate, and
Dhoni’s potential involvement adds a unique twist to the search for India’s next head coach.
